At VB Coaching & Consulting, we understand how adults learn, and we respect that a leader’s time and attention is a valuable asset. Therefore, we collaborate with our internal partners to ensure workshop participants have meaningful and practical learning experiences that translate directly back to improving results in their business.

Our approach to designing and implementing successful enterprise learning programs is as follows:

  • Focus on deep skills development.  We collaborate with our internal partners to define clear and measurable behaviors that are core to the success of the business so that we can measure the return on investment in the learning programs.
  • Track progress, learning and achievement.   We collaborate to build programs with metrics designed into the curriculum, to track progress, achievement, and results.  When there is transparency on progress, there is a corresponding level of participation and impact.
  • Provide Social and collaborative learning.  The most successful programs have some form of knowledge sharing and collaboration built into them.  One can expect classroom training to be only 15-20% of the learning experience.  To cause any sustainable change in behavior, participants have to internalize the knowledge by applying it on the job and share with others how to perform at even greater levels.
  • Business needs analysis is an iterative process.  We do not approach learning as a static program addressing an isolated problem.  We have an open and continual feedback process built into our programs so that we can identify business issues, leadership challenges, and other contributing factors and sources of knowledge within the organization.  When looking at behavior through the lens of culture, we can focus on skills development and coaching support that engages leaders in thinking systemically about solutions.
  • Leaders play a major role in every program.  We believe that the most successful organizations distribute leadership throughout.  Our most rewarding engagements are those where first line supervisors and senior leaders are all engaged in leadership training.  While the design of a training workshop will vary depending on the level of leadership, the competencies and the main objectives are aligned because all leaders must demonstrate expected behaviors of the competencies and they must support, reinforce, and build upon the training programs that are developed within their organizations.  Active sponsorship, support, and engagement of all leaders is required for meaningful and sustainable behavioral change and transformation.
  • Use of e-learning and online sharing technologies.  We are strong advocates of leveraging technology for learning.  We can design our programs to be delivered in person or entirely through virtual classroom learning technology.

We ask participants to start with their real-life knowledge, skills, and experience and build on that through our generative learning approach. This uses all four aspects of human learning: thinking, feeling, doing and reflecting.

This method of learning occurs in relationship with others and is grounded by sound theories of adult education. We provide follow-up support to ensure our internal partners and participants can apply what they learn into their particular circumstances

We leverage established leadership development models and assessments, for example: Appreciative Inquiry, Situational Leadership, and Strengths-Based Leadership. We take a systemic and competency-based approach; utilizing change management and coaching best practices to ensure that behavior change is sustainable. We are all informed on the organizational theory influence of leadership on employee engagement. We support leader led development and leadership mobility within the organization.
